Nashville Shores announced Thursday that it is adding Mega Mayhem, which they called the largest and most thrilling water slide addition in the history of the Percy Priest Lake water park.
The massive multi-million dollar family raft ride is scheduled to be part of opening day May 2, according to Larry Edgmon, general manager of Nashville Shores.
“Mega Mayhem is a family-thrill water slide that we are excited to bring to Middle Tennessee in 2020,” he said “This unique, thrilling ride is actually like two water slides in one. It is a hybrid slide featuring two distinct elements with a tornado funnel and a giant four-story wall that will provide a memorable group experience for families and friends.”
The ride starts atop a 6-story platform, which puts it higher than the current tallest slide, the Big Kahuna which was added in 2015.
Here is the description of the new Mega Mayhem: “Rafts will carve through a dark serpentine tunnel, then drop suddenly through a chute into the tornado funnel, where they swing between zero-gravity moments and dizzying drops,” according to the announcement.
“The raft then picks up speed down a 45-degree angle which then thrusts riders up and across the massive 40-foot high, near-vertical wall. Rushing off the wave, riders sweep into a thrillingly, narrow enclosed slide, through a waterfall, and into the splash pool.”
Riders will have to be 48 inches tall or taller to board the Mega Mayhem, which can accommodate up to four passengers.
This is the only water slide of its type in Tennessee, and one of only six in the world.
“This is the biggest water slide that we have ever put in Nashville Shores,” said Edgmon. “Beside the thrills guests will experience on the slide, the view of the water park and Percy Priest Lake from the tower is going to be incredible.”
The water slide's addition is part of ongoing improvements amid a multi-million dollar expansion for Nashville Shores, which was purchased in 2009 by an investor group led by former Six Flags CEO Kieran Burke.
Since then, the park has almost doubled in size with the addition of a wave pool, a lazy river, the Treetop Adventure Park in 2012, the Big Kahuna family ride in 2015, and the Aqua Park lake attraction in 2018.
