ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- In a new list of the most in-demand, gay-friendly cities around the world, St. Petersburg ranks 11th.

The Holiday LGBTQ Travel Index was compiled by MisterB&B, a short-term rental app designed to help LGBTQ people stay safe when traveling. Mister B&B created the ranking by looking at what cities around the world are the most popular for LGBTQ travelers overall and for the end-of-the-year holidays.

The top spot went to Wilton Manors, a city in Broward County. Other Florida cities include Fort Lauderdale (No. 3), Miami Beach (No. 5) and Oakland Park (No. 16).

Overall, the top destination for LGBTQ travelers in 2018 is Paris, but New York City, Chicago and three California cities ranked in the top 15.

MisterB&B said it ranked "gay-friendliness" based on whether the country has made gay marriage legal as well as the country or city's hate-crime protection laws.
