CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - As recovery from Covid-19 continues to evolve, there is a lot of potential for federal dollars to help with growth. The federal government has recognized that the tourism industry was greatly impacted during this time.

“They’re looking at how do they deploy money to help in the recovery of that. So we said how do we get Casper ready and how do we get everybody on the same page from a priority perspective when it comes to tourism infrastructure,” said Brook Kaufman, the CEO of Visit Casper.

And that’s where the 2021 Master Plan comes in.

The 10-year plan includes both short and long term goals. A consultant reviewed 35 different plans from multiple agencies in Natrona County to determine what are the top priorities as the visitor economy continues to grow.

The main focuses of the 2021 Mast Plan include strategic partnerships and collaborating with other organizations, enhancing Casper-area amenities such as the Ford Wyoming Center, improving transportation and air service, and developing and promoting assets like Casper Mountain and the North Platte River.

“I think before, where maybe our priorities would compete or maybe they were perceived as lesser than someone else’s, now collectively as a community, we said these things we agree matter to us and how do we move them forward. So it’s really having the blueprint to be able to start getting some more of those things done and measure our success in that,” said Kaufman.

Visit Casper expects the New Year to bring in many more tourists with Yellowstone’s 150th anniversary and the National Historic Trail Center’s 20th anniverary.
