Maine Capitol Police said Monday that an airplane part almost struck a screening agent outside the state Capitol in Augusta.

They said the metal object fell from the sky at about 12:30 p.m. Friday. WGME reported that it left a mark on the walkway.

"The 6–7-pound sleeve like object landed at a high velocity approximately 6-8 feet from Capitol Police Screener Craig Donahue who was walking outside the entrance," a release said. "Two other individuals were also in the area and witnessed the incident."

No one was hurt.

Capitol Police said they notified the Augusta State Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration, which launched an investigation.

The part might have come from a plane on an international route.

The FAA has notified airlines that were flying over Augusta at the time.
