American Airlines flight 4965, arriving to Reagan National Airport from Memphis, had tires on its main landing gear go down after landing safely around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The aircraft stopped on the runway and authorities are working to transport passengers from the aircraft to the terminal. There were no reported injuries.

Two runways have been temporarily closed by air traffic control as crews assess the situation.

The pilot of the plane described the scene and implied things could have ended up a lot worse.

"Yes, the tires were blown on the runway," the pilot said. "We had to use emergency breaking to get the airplane to stop. We were, we were not gonna stop."
