Summer is officially in season.

Longer days and high temperatures across Southern California marked the first official week of summer. And with Father’s Day and the new federal Juneteenth holiday the opening act for the first day of summer, Orange County residents and visitors alike rang in the new season outdoors.

Summer brought volleyball games, won and lost, on Corona del Mar State Beach. It provided the perfect excuse for mountain bikers to explore the trails in Santiago Oaks Regional Park.

Hot dogs were scorched by the smattering of fires along the beaches, providing heat and light long after the summer solstice sun eventually gave way to the moon.

Summer is officially here — for the next three months, that is.
