Americans are ready to travel for spring break, and the list of trending destinations reveals they are headed back to Puerto Rico.

Allianz Global Assistance has revealed its list of top international spring break destinations, and once again, enough Americans are traveling to the island to put it in the number-five spot on the list. This is welcome news as the island continues to recover from Hurricane Maria and tourism is a major driver of the economy. An influx of spring break travelers will be a welcome shot in the arm to Puerto Rico’s economy.

“Americans are once again spending their travel funds in Puerto Rico, which has made an impressive comeback as it continues to rebuild after Hurricane Maria,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications for Allianz Global Assistance USA.

Salt Lake City, Utah, has also reappeared on the list as skiers hit the slopes to get in some last runs of the season.

But while there are a few reappearances on the list, old favorites dominate. Florida’s beaches and attractions continue to draw in visitors with Tampa rejoining the list of popular destinations in the state that include Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Fort Myers. Orlando is the number one destination on the list for spring break travel domestically.

Mexico may be making headlines with security warnings but Americans are clearly smarter than the media and continue to flock to the country’s top resort destinations. Cancun is once again in the number-one spot, joined by San Jose del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta.
