This Florida City Was Just Named ‘Most Excellent in the World' (and We're Booking a Vacay Stat)

Every year, Scandinavian countries (with some of the coldest, longest, darkest winters) top the World Happiness Report as the most joyous places on earth, and we always scratch our heads in confusion. Sure, some may reference the heightened sense of community, mutual support and hygge-filled outlook that’s more prevalent when it’s frigid outside, but, if you ask us, a warm-weather clime is more suited to our vitamin-D-craving selves.

So we’re actually not that surprised the Scandis recently got the boot in favor of the Sunshine State—in particular, Key West.

That’s right, the largest city in the Florida Keys (the southernmost chain of islands off the tip of the state that lies only 90 miles from Cuba) just received the prestigious title of “Most Excellent City in the World”for 2018, according to TripAdvisor.

Using an algorithm that takes into account the quality, quantity and recency of user reviews on the site, TripAdvisor determined Key West—with its pristine white-sand beaches, pastel-colored homes and shops, bar-filled Duval Street and Ernest Hemingway mansion—to be the number one city to visit this year. The runners-up included Reykjavik in second place and Edinburgh at the number three spot.

We should have known the “key” to happiness was right in front of our faces (and in the same state that gave us Disney World, of course) all along.
