PALM DESERT, CA — There's much to look forward to during the holiday season in Riverside County. In 2022, Palm Desert is once again giving us all a season to get outside and enjoy Coachella Valley and Riverside County winter-themed fun. If you're planning on visiting Palm Desert or going out and about this holiday, here are some ideas to get you in the spirit!

Thursday, Dec. 1 - See the lights at The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, 3649 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside, CA where "Visitors will enjoy millions of holiday lights at the historic hotel and holiday-themed decorations in the downtown area at what has become one of the nation’s most popular holiday events.”

Friday, Dec. 2 - Manheim Steamroller in concert at McCallum Theater at 8 p.m. Experience the magic as the spirit of the season comes alive with the signature sound of Mannheim Steamroller. Their holiday CDs have become synonymous with Christmas and continue to occupy top spots on Billboard’s Seasonal Charts every year!

Saturday, Dec. 3 - Start your day with a photo with Santa! From 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Make Santa's nice list at the Playtime with Santa event at The Gardens on El Paseo this holiday

It’s time for a parade in Palm Springs! 30th Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade. "This year's 30th annual Palm Springs FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS PARADE will return to world-famous Palm Canyon Drive at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Sunday, Dec. 4 - Make a trek to Riverside or Rancho Cucamonga to see Inland Pacific Ballet's 'The Nutcracker' at the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside or the Lewis Family Playhouse in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Head to Indio for the 30th Annual International Tamale Fest Dec. 1-4, 2022. "Presented by the City of Indio and produced by CUSP Agency, it's the largest tamale festival in the world.”

Monday, Dec. 5 - Take in the full winter moon! Grab your hiking boots and join Friends of the Desert Mountains volunteer docents on a full moon hike on the Bighorn Overlook trail loop.

Tuesday, Dec. 6 - All Is Calm: at McCallum Theater - Produced by Theater Latte Da of Minneapolis this moving work captures an astounding moment in history when Allied and German soldiers laid down their arms to celebrate the holiday together by trading carols, sharing food and drink, playing soccer and burying the dead.

Wednesday, Dec. 7 - Richard Winchester’s hilarious musical, “Christmas with the Crawford’s” returns to the Desert Rose Playhouse but with an entirely new addition of characters!

Thursday, Dec. 8 - The Empire Polo Club invites all to the Magic of Lights: a dazzling, drive-through holiday lights experience featuring favorite holiday scenes and characters of the season using the latest LED technology and digital animations.

Friday, Dec. 9 - The Living Desert celebrates WildLights - honoring 29 years of dazzling guests by transforming the Zoo into a sparkling winter wonderland. Come to this festive, annual tradition and marvel at more than a million colorful, sparkling holiday lights.

Desert Theaterworks presents: Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas:” a dazzling score featuring well-known standards including “Blue Skies”, “I Love a Piano”, How Deep Is the Ocean”, “Snow” and the perennial title song, White Christmas is a family-friendly holiday show bursting with cheerful dancing, treasured tunes and a generous helping of yuletide cheer.

Saturday, Dec. 10 - Paws And Claus at Gardens At El Paseo. Bring your fur babies (dogs and cats) to meet Santa at The Gardens at El Paseo. Pets should be leashed and/or in a lightweight carrier and up-to-date on all vaccines. Stay for Merry Movie Nights later in the evening.

Sunday, Dec. 11 - It’s time for Holiday Singin’ and Swingin’ at, a high-energy holiday show put on by California Desert Chorale! Doors open at 2:30pm and a minimum of $20 donation will be requested. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.

If you would like a more traditional Christmas Carol evening, head to St. Margaret’s for their annual Carols For Christmas at 7 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 12 - Learn how to make some holiday treats (maybe) and have some fun (definitely) at Alton Brown’s culinary variety show. Audiences can expect more comedy, more music, more highly unusual cooking demos, and more potentially dangerous science stuff at McCallum Theater.

Tuesday, Dec. 13 - More holiday performing, this time by Emmett Cahill, Ireland’s most exciting tenor, playing at St. Margaret’s Church.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 - Let it Snow! Part of the new "Palm Canyon Cabaret" fundraising series. Come to see Cabaret acts featuring our valley's brightest talents. Be sure to check back here for more exciting details about this show and others throughout the season!

Thursday, Dec. 15 - If you love horses, come to watch the California Dressage Society competitions in Thermal at the Desert Holiday III at the Desert International Horse Park.

Friday, Dec. 16 - Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus “Naughty or Nice.” The chorus brings a production that radiates the magic and wonder of the holiday season, the way we all felt when we were kids and when we all believed in Santa! At the Annenberg Theater.

Saturday, Dec. 17 - Watch “The Santa Clause 2” during Merry Movie Nights at the Gardens At El Paseo. Bring your folding chairs, blankets and enjoy the festive film with your neighbors under the open air.

Sunday, Dec. 18 - It’s time for Mariachi Sol de Mexico de José Hernàndez: Merri-Achi Christmas at McCallum Theater. At 7 p.m. witness the colorful and traditional Mexican holiday celebration full of seasonal songs, dance, and festive merriment.

Monday, Dec. 19 - McCallum Theater continues to delight with Dave Koz & Friends 25th Anniversary Christmas Tour. The annual Christmas Tour brings together a magical combination of musicians to celebrate this special season.

Tuesday, Dec. 20 - Palm Springs’s award-winning dance company, CK Dance, presents The Nutcracker. Annenberg Theater for its 26th Annual performance of "The Nutcracker", the quintessential holiday Ballet of Tchaikovsky's at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 21 - Get outside and enjoy nature on a Nature Walk at Blixeth Park. This is a leisurely ½ mile narrow walking path on uneven terrain with no elevation gain and little shade. This path is friendly to dogs on a leash. Bring 1 liter of water, a sun hat, sunscreen and wear close-toed shoes.

Thursday, Dec. 22 -Is it or isn’t it a Christmas movie? “Die Hard” shows at 8 p.m. at the Palm Springs Cultural center.

Friday, Dec. 23 - Enjoy local favorite, Whitney Lyman, for the last Friday on the Center Lawn near Saks Fifth Avenue. The two-hour shows are free to the public and feature music from the 60's all the way to today's greatest hits.

Fridays | 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 24 - Pick up some local stocking stuffers or holiday ingredients at the Certified Farmers’ Market in Palm Desert. The com­mu­nity gath­er­ing place where local farm­ers and ven­dors can offer fresh agri­cul­tural and related products.

Sunday, Dec. 25 - Plan your Christmas Dinner at Mikado at Desert Springs JW Marriott. Make your own “Christmas Story” by eating Japanese food in the Palm Desert. Book your open table reservations.

Monday, Dec. 26 - Ready for some post-holiday Yoga and Wellness? GATHER for Gentle Flow yoga in La Quinta.

Tuesday, Dec. 27- Kids getting bored? The Winter Art Teen Program in Indio at the Indio Teen Center can help kids stay involved and engaged over the winter break. Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 28 - Come watch your Coachella Valley Firebirds play the Ontario Reign! At 7 p.m., the expansion team for the Seattle Kraken will take their shot closeby. Get tickets now.

Thursday, Dec. 29 - Get out and hike at the Dead Indian Canyon Interpretive Hike. Open from October through December and provides wonderful opportunities to see the endangered Peninsular Bighorn Sheep and many other desert critters. You will learn about the geology of the area and a great outdoor experience close to downtown Palm Desert.

Friday, Dec. 30 - Jordan Sparks performs on El Paseo. Everyone is invited as we all come together to celebrate 2022 and everything that makes the Coachella Valley so great! All ages welcome!

Saturday, Dec. 31 - Ring in the New Year at the Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs. Join for the ABBA disco-themed party, free $500 Cash Balloon Drop and Champagne Toast will be had to usher in the New Year! So honey-honey, take-a-chance and you’ll be dancing all night long. Grab tickets, bring your friends, and have the best night of your life!
