If you only have a weekend in Seattle, Washington with your family, make sure and visit the following iconic places:

The Space Needle is to Seattle what the Statue of Liberty is to New York, the Golden Gate Bridge is to San Francisco, or the Arch is to St. Louis. If you don’t ride the elevator to the top of the observation deck, at least wander around the Seattle Center grounds.

Kid-friendly attractions range from the Seattle Children’s Museum to the International Fountain (a warm weather favorite), and the Pacific Science Center. Our kids loved the modern and whimsical playground near the monorail terminal and the Experience Music Project.

If you visit Chihuly Garden and Glass with kids, make sure to stay for a glassblowing demonstration in the outside courtyard. Glass artist Dale Chihuly was born in Washington State and you’ll find examples of his work up and down the Puget Sound.

Family-friendly attractions along the Seattle waterfront include the Seattle Aquarium (Pier 59), Miner’s Landing and The Great Seattle Wheel (Pier 57), and the fairy to Tillicum Village on Blake Island Marine State Park between Pier 56 an Pier 55.

Within walking distance of the waterfront is the famous Public Market Center on Pike Place (also known as the Pikes Place Market). If you go, make sure to watch the fishmongers throw fish at the Fresh Fish Company and find the Gum Wall (located on a back alley one level below the main entrance to the market).

We also ventured out to the Woodland Park Zoo on the residential edge of downtown.
