Couldn’t get a ticket to see “Hamilton” in person? You haven’t missed your shot.

The Pulitizer Prize-winning musical is coming to theaters on Oct. 15, 2021, according to show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. A film version of the show, which follows founding father Alexander Hamilton in the days leading up to, during and after the Revolutionary War, will be brought to movie theaters across the nation by Disney. It’ll feature the original Broadway cast too.

That means we’ll all be able to see Pennsylvanians Leslie Odom Jr. and Jonathan Groff perform their roles as Aaron Burr and King George III respectively. Odom won a Tony for Best Actor in a Musical for his role as Hamilton’s rival, while Groff was nominated for a Tony for his part as the British monarch.

While Odom was born in New York, he spent much of his childhood and teen years in Philadelphia where he attended the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. He later graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Groff grew up in Ronks in Lancaster County.

Fans of the show can expect the film version to be properly theatrical, with it being filmed onstage at the Richard Rogers Theatre, which has been the musical’s home since July 13, 2015.

Still really want to see “Hamilton” live? The musical is set to return to Pittsburgh during the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s 2020-2021 season. Dates and ticket information have yet to be released for the performances, but you can learn more and stay in the loop by visiting trustarts.org.
