Kellan Lutz and his wife Brittany have announced the birth of their first child a year after they tragically lost a stillborn baby.

The couple have welcomed a baby girl - named Ashtyn Lilly - and shared the news on Instagram on Friday, four days after Brittany gave birth.

Kellan, 35, and Brittany, 32, both posted the same image of three polaroids which showed them holding their newborn daughter in hospital.

Alongside the sweet snap, Brittany wrote: 'She's here!!!! Ashtyn Lilly Lutz. 2•22•21. The day she came into the world it was snowing, raining, and freezing, but that night she was born and we woke up to sun, clear skies, and winter melting away.'

Referencing her stillbirth last year, Brittany continued: 'It was so symbolic considering this time last year was literally winter for our souls only to be met one year later with the brightest sunshine. She ushered in a new season for us and we love her beyond comprehension.'

She continued: 'God redeems. He restores. He never leaves us broken-hearted, we just have to give Him the broken pieces and what He turns it into? Wow.

Brittany also reposted the image on her Stories alongside the caption 'It's a girl!', after previously revealing they were expecting a daughter.

Meanwhile, actor Kellan also shared his excitement at their new arrival by resharing Brittany's post on his own page to his 960,000 followers.

He wrote: 'Birth is amazing!!!', alongside heart and prayer hands emojis.

The birth comes one year after the couple opened up about suffering baby loss when they were six months pregnant.

They announced in September that they were pregnant with Ashtyn by sharing a sweet video on Instagram.

Lutz said: 'We're pregnant again! This is real life… For those that don't know, we are pregnant. Thank you all for lining with us, praying for us, supporting us. We're so excited.'

Brittany added: 'It was a surprise. You know, obviously it was a surprise losing our daughter at the beginning of the year. That was tough, and still is. There still are hard moments.'

The couple, who celebrated their third wedding anniversary in November, shared the news that they were expecting a girl with a gender reveal a month later.

Kellan 'wrote and directed' the affectionate clip which ended Brittany showing off her 'girl mama' sweatshirt and baby bump.

In the caption of the video Brittany penned: 'WE LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

After a brief 'I love you'/'I love you more' back and forth, Lutz asked his wife what was written on her sweatshirt.

The word 'Mama' had been visible during the video but the word before it was obscured by the floral arrangement.

'Just that we're having a girl,' Brittany responded while affectionately touching her baby bump and moving to reveal the word 'girl' on the shirt.

She burst into a huge grin while Kellan shouted 'girl mama' from behind the camera.

The couple said in the video that they were so excited and couldn't wait to meet their new bundle of joy.

'Let me see that bump,' Kellan directed to his wife. She dutifully showed off her belly to which he responded: 'You are beautiful.'

Brittany added: 'It was a surprise. You know, obviously it was a surprise losing our daughter at the beginning of the year. That was tough, and still is. There still are hard moments.

'We definitely went through a lot, and I still would like to share my journey in some way that I can in the future. Here we are with another little promise!'

Brittany shared the news of their baby loss in February 2020 with a black and white photo of herself cradling her tummy.

She penned: 'It was my absolute honor and pleasure to be your mom these last 6 months. I did my best and it was an absolute joy seeing your little face all those times on that screen and feeling your tiny kicks.

'I don't know why it happened the way it did, but part of me finds so much peace knowing you never experienced pain or heartache and never will...

'You're in the arms of Jesus now and one day we will get to meet you for real. Until I see you in heaven... your mommy loves you so much.'

Brittany also gave some insight into the traumatic event in which, she suggests, she came close to death herself.

She also thanked her 'amazing husband' for being by her side through it all. The couple married in 2017 and revealed in November last year that they were expecting their first child.

BRITTANY

Baby girl,⁣

It was my absolute honor and pleasure to be your mom these last 6 months. I did my best and it was an absolute joy seeing your little face all those times on that screen and feeling your tiny kicks.

I don’t know why it happened the way it did, but part of me finds so much peace knowing you never experienced pain or heartache and never will. You’re in the arms of Jesus now and one day we will get to meet you for real. Until I see you in heaven... your mommy loves you so much.

I’m not ready to talk about what happened, and I’m not sure I ever will. But I can say I am SO grateful for the most amazing husband who’s been by my side the entire time. I have the best most supportive family.

The prayers from friends have meant everything. My incredible doctor and the amazing team at UCLA Medical Center who kept me alive are the real MVPs. And to all of you who donate blood- I have never been more grateful for you. Without you people like me wouldn’t be here. ⁣

Thank you for respecting all of our privacy right now. Gonna take some time away to process and heal.

 KELLAN

My Wonder Woman. It’s been a crazy rollercoaster of a week with a lot of emotions.Taking heartbrokenness to a whole new level but Grateful for these past 6 months and the journey itself.
