Tesla Crashes Nursing Home, 4 Hurt, 1 Deceased / Mill Basin, Brooklyn

6.10.21 / Video by Adam / MILL BASIN, Brooklyn (NYPD) - On Thursday, June 10, 2021 at approximately 2342 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision towards the intersection of National Drive and Strickland Avenue, within the confines of the 63 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed five (5) occupants of a vehicle, all with various injuries. EMS responded to the location and transported the vehicle operator, a 22-year-old male, to NYC Health & Hospitals/Kings County, in stable condition with injuries to the right hand and leg. EMS also transported the 24-year-old male front passenger and 22-year-old male driver's side rear passenger, to NYC Health & Hospitals/Kings County, both with minor injuries. The 18-year-old male middle seat rear passenger (stable), along with the 18-year-old passenger side rear seat passenger (deceased), were both transported, via EMS, to Brookdale Hospital. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that the vehicle, a 2021 Tesla sedan, was traveling north bound on National Drive, at an apparent high rate of speed, when the operator failed to properly navigate the roadway/turn onto east bound Strickland Avenue, continuing north bound and proceeding through a metal fence, striking two garbage dumpsters, before rotating and striking a retaining wall, before coming to a rest within the driveway area of 5905 Strickland Avenue. The investigation remains ongoing.
