Mike MacDonald, a veteran of the Canadian stand-up comedy circuit, died Saturday of heart complications, his brother told CTV News.

He was 63.

MacDonald, who was best known for his work at the Just For Laughs comedy festival, also made appearances on “Late Night With David Letterman” and “The Arsenio Hall Show” over the years.

"Saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend and Canadian comedy legend Mike MacDonald. Over the years he has graced our stages more than any other comic and will be greatly missed,” Just for Laughs said in a statement.

MacDonald, a former drug addict, was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2011 and had a liver transplant in 2013 after a fund-raising campaign to pay for the medical expenses.
