"Some of us want to be shamed," she said. "When I was in law school, I was gaining weight, I said to my stepfather, 'If you see me going into that kitchen one more time, you say, 'Where you going, fat *ss?' And it works!"

The moment, which came during a segment on weight loss, produced awkward laughter from the crowd and Kelly's guest  "Fit Mom" Maria Kang.

"My husband does that to me all the time," said Kang. "I tell him my goals and if it's early in the morning and he sees me still in bed, he's like 'what are you doing in here.'"

Kang continued, saying how her husband encouraged her to stick to her fitness goals by hiding the potato chips in their home.

This is not the first time Kelly has made uncomfortable on-air comments. Shortly after her show debuted, Kelly earned an on-air rebuke from Jane Fonda for asking her questions about plastic surgery. Kelly also told a "Will & Grace" fan that "the gay thing" was working out great for him.

Kelly's show has been plagued by historically low ratings since its debut in September

Before moving to "Today," Kelly had a long career at Fox News, but one that was not entirely gaffe-free either. In one of her most cringeworthy moments, the host declared on-air that Santa Claus was white.
