Soap Vet Cady McClain's Horrible Experience On The Young And The Restless

Daytime television star Cady McClain has become synonymous with the soap opera genre thanks to her long and extensive career in the industry. She started off playing Dixie Cooney on "All My Children" before taking on the role of Rosanna Cabot on "As The World Turns," per IMDb. Despite winning an Emmy for her role on "All My Children" at age 21, McClain knew early on that the daytime television industry was definitely a fickle one. In other words, one day you're in, and the next day you can be out regardless of who you are or how big your role may be. She told Soap Central in an interview back in 2009, "No one actor can make or break a show. I don't think so. I do think that if All My Children lost Susan Lucci, that might be an exception to the rule, but maybe not — you never know. Actors know that we're always expendable. We're wallpaper. Nobody's too big to be fired. It's just not the way it is."

And while McClain has certainly seen plenty of good times and bad during the course of her career, she says that her experience on "The Young and the Restless" is one that she'll never forget and maybe for not the right reasons, too. That's not to say she was pushed out, but she might have been left out on some things, that's for sure.

Cady McClain Didn't Like The Atmosphere In Genoa City

While on Soap Opera Digest's podcast, Cady McClain hinted that the time she spent working on the set of "The Young and the Restless" was perhaps not her most memorable daytime television experience. While she didn't want to go into too many details, McClain did hint that the set of the hit CBS soap wasn't her favorite mostly because it had the kind of atmosphere that she didn't expect. She said, "Y&R, I did not find to be a very funny set. I found it to be pretty... Gosh, you know, it's hard to talk about Y&R, that experience" (via Soaps.com).

With that said though, McClain did say in an interview with TV Guide Magazine back in 2014 that she was super excited about joining the cast of "The Young and the Restless" before she started working on the show. She said at the time, "It's the most amazing thing. Y&R had its 41st anniversary a couple of weeks ago with the big press party and the cake-cutting and a lot of celebration — something I never thought I would experience again. [Laughs] I thought the party was over for me!"

And while no one really knows what happened between all that partying and what McClain experienced later on, that didn't stop her from continuing her daytime television career at yet another soap.

Cady McClain Says Working On Days Of Our Lives Has Been A Positive Experience

Cady McClain surprised daytime television fans when it was announced back in 2020 that she would be joining the cast of "Days of Our Lives." She took over as the new Jennifer Horton Deveraux from Melissa Reeves. And unlike the experience she had while on "The Young and the Restless," McClain hasn't had anything bad or negative to say about working in Salem. McClain told Soap Opera Digest that same year that when she first stepped onto the set, it was like night and day compared to "The Young and the Restless." She said, "I laughed when I got on set. I laughed so hard. They were just so funny and so great and so warm and so kind. It was just one of the best days. What a blessing to work. What a blessing to be on set. What a blessing to be working with people that are fun to work with. I'll never forget it. It was fantastic."

Perhaps McClain just didn't get a chance to experience things like Jack Abbott's (Peter Bergman) fun side or hear about "The Young and the Restless" stars' dressing room secrets while she was still there. That, and "Y&R" stars Michelle Stafford and Amelia Heinle did have some fun embarrassing their daughters when they did TikTok moves on Instagram. Surely, there has to be some laughter on the set when you are doing things like that, right?
