Veteran character actor Robert Hogan dies at 87

Actor Robert Hogan died on May 27 due to complications from pneumonia, his family announced. The versatile actor known for “The Wire” was 87.

Over the course of Hogan’s illustrious six-decade-long career, he had 150 credits to his name on some television’s most famous shows including “Murder, She Wrote,” “Law & Order” and “Gunsmoke.”

As a staple on network television, Hogan found his way on to the set of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Hawaii Five-O, “Batman,””M*A*S*H” and “The Incredible Hulk.” He also made recurring appearances on various soap operas, most notably, “Days of Our Lives” and “All My Children.”

Hogan was born in Queens, New York, on Sept. 28, 1933. After serving the United States overseas during the Korean War, he returned back to New York City, where he studied engineering at New York University. Following poor results from an engineering aptitude test, Hogan decided to go into acting in hopes that he would find his calling there.

Hogan leaves behind his wife Mary of 38 years, three children from a previous marriage and two grandchildren.
