A Who's The Boss? sequel has landed at Amazon's Freeve streaming service after almost two years of development, Deadline reports. Original series stars Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano will reprise their roles as Tony and Samantha Micelli. The sequel will be co-executive produced by Norman Lear, Mike Royce and Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz, who collaborated on the One Day at a Time reboot of the original 1975 series.

Who's The Boss? will pick up 30 years after the original show's conclusion and will follow the relationship between father and daughter, Tony and Samantha. Samantha is now a single mother living in the same house where she grew up alongside Tony, the former Major League Baseball player turned housekeeper who is now retired. The series will tackle generational differences between the two while exploring a modernized family dynamic.

Lear and his producing partner Brent Miller of Act III Productions, Dan Farah of Farah Films, Danza, Milano, Royce and Muñoz-Liebowitz will produce, while Royce is also set to write. Lear is known for his production role on many popular sitcoms including All in the Family, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time (both versions), The Jeffersons, and Good Times. He is a five time Emmy Award winner. Sony Pictures, who owns the rights to the original series, is the studio.

As nostalgia continues to impact entertainment, Who's The Boss? joins several recent series revivals, reboots and sequels including iCarly, the Sex and the City revival And Just Like That, The Wonder Years and the upcoming Party Down and Pretty Little Liars.

The Original Who's The Boss?

Created by Martin Cohan and Blake Hunter, Who’s the Boss? ran for 8 seasons from 1984-92 on ABC. The series gained popularity while on the air (and remains a syndication favorite), and was nominated for many awards, including ten Primetime Emmy Awards and five Golden Globe Awards. It was the recipient of one Emmy and one Golden Globe Award.

The original series starred Danza, Milano, Judith Light, Danny Pintauro and Katherine Helmond. Who's The Boss? followed the story of Tony Micelli, a widower and retired baseball player who, seeking a better life for his young daughter, moves to Connecticut. He finds work as a live-in housekeeper for Angela (Judith Light), a divorced executive and mother to Jonathan (Danny Pintauro). Katherine Helmond, who died in 2019, also starred as Angela's flirtatious and feisty mother. It is currently unknown whether Light or Pintauro will appear on the sequel.

Freevee (previously IMDb TV) streams the first two seasons of the original series, while streamer Tubi currently holds rights to six seasons.
