The Talk - Vanessa Lachey Says 'mom left' Her as Child, But She 'broke the mold'

Monday on "The Talk" star of "NCIS: Hawaii" Vanessa Lachey opens up about her childhood and her new book, Life from Scratch: Family Traditions that Start with You. "The title itself came about because mom left when I was very young. I had a dad in the military and a step mom who didn't want children. She's amazing now, but at the time she was like, 'I don't want kids. I don't want to be a mom. I didn't sign up for this.' So I did a lot of stumbling through life. I did a lot of Googling. I did a lot of asking girlfriends and I made a ton of mistakes. Ultimately at 41, I think I've come full circle. I have righted some wrongs. I've broke the mold of my mom leaving me and certain things I didn't have growing up and I've made a life with my husband, Nick and our 3 kids from scratch... I want people to know, your messy past doesn't need to define your future. You are in charge of your destiny and you can have any life you imagine."
