High school student with Down syndrome hits buzzer-beater

A gym full of spectators in Saint Peter, Minnesota, went wild on February 8 after a student with Down syndrome hit the buzzer-beater during a high school basketball game. Mason Doherty scored the final points in a home game for Saint Peter High School, who were playing against Minnehaha Academy. Doherty had also just sunk a three-pointer before this footage was recorded. McKenna Reese, a former student at the school, shot this video. She told Storyful there were 20 seconds left in the game when Doherty stole the ball and went in for a layup. Reese said, “He missed the layup, but a teammate got the rebound and he ended up hitting the buzzer-beater.” “Tears were shed,” Reese added, and there were “many hollers for the kid.” Minnehaha won the game 95-66.
