Thick Snow Turns Yosemite National Park Into Winter Wonderland

Accessing the snow-covered valley of Yosemite National Park is difficult in winter, but those who make it say it’s worth the effort. Instagram user @hikingd_ shared this footage from a drive as they approached El Capitan, an iconic vertical rock formation in the park, on February 18, writing: “I’ve seen Yosemite in all seasons and I can say winter is my favorite season in Yosemite – this magical place stole my heart.” Yosemite had received heavy snow in the preceding weeks, including 14 inches in one 24-hour period up to February 10, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford. Park officials said the valley remained accessible by car, but that all campsites were closed over the winter season. Credit: @ hikingd_ via Storyful
