World's largest active volcano, Mauna Loa, erupts in Hawaii
The world's largest active volcano erupted Sunday, ending an almost 40-year quiet period. Hawaii's Mauna Loa spilled glowing, fire-red lava upon the big island, illuminating the night sky. The lava is contained and doesn't threaten islanders living downslope, the U.S. Geological Service confirmed.
