CHICAGO — Enjoy the springtime March temperatures while you can because on Saturday because it’s not sticking around for long, the National Weather Service predicts.

And what’s worse, 70-degree temperatures may be giving away to more of the white stuff just as local residents were getting used to the idea of moving away from winter.

National Weather Service forecasters are predicting temperatures could reach 70 degrees on Saturday. The readings mark the first day in 2022 in the greater Chicago area when local residents have seen conditions where mild air tops out at more than 60 degrees, the weather service said.

But after the mild temperatures stick around on Sunday with highs expected to top out around 56 degrees, rain with a chain of a wintery mix will move in for the overnight hours and into Monday, forecasters predict.

Overnight temperatures will hover in the low-to-mid 30s before rain and snow move in on Monday, the weather service said. Monday’s winter return could produce accumulating snow forecasters said and there is an 80 percent of precipitation before the snow ends some time Monday evening.

Temperatures will stay in the 20s overnight Monday night before the air warms slightly into the 40s for the remainder of the week.
