Another mix of ice and snow headed for Upstate New York

Syracuse, N.Y. — Winter in Upstate New York was full of winter storms bringing combinations of rain, ice and snow. Spring so far appears to be following the same pattern.

A mix of ice and snow is expected tonight and Saturday morning, with the hardest-hit areas at higher elevations east of Interstate 81.

Up to a tenth of an inch of ice could accumulate, enough to make roads slippery and to down some branches and power lines, the National Weather Service said. Snowfall will be light, with an inch or two of accumulation.

Winds will be strong Saturday, especially in the Finger Lakes and Western New York. Gusts could reach 45 mph.

The mix of rain, sleet of snow arrives late tonight and lasts through Saturday morning, according to the weather service. By Saturday afternoon, temperatures warming into the low 40s will turn all the precipitation into just rain. A quarter of an inch or more of rain could fall through late Saturday afternoon. Light rain and gusty winds could linger into Sunday morning.
