(WWJ) Something striking to see spinning over Lake Erie: An enormous waterspout.

The National Weather Serivce posted video of the twister, which formed near Wednesday near Geneva-on-the-Lake, in Ashtabula County, Ohio, with credit to Amanda Briggs de Lavini,

The NWS said it received several reports of waterspouts over Lake Erie near Presque Isle Wednsday morning, adding that conditions would remain favorable for waterspouts over several the next hours. The danger has since passed, however, with severe weather moving out of the area before 5 p.m.

While they look intimidating, waterspouts are generally weaker than tornadoes and dissipate when they reach land. However, waterspouts can be extremely dangerous for boaters. Learn more about waterspouts here.

Meanwhile, skies were sunny and clear in metro Detroit, with a little rain in the forecast for Thursday morning. Stay tuned to WWJ for the latest forecast, every 10 minutes on the 8s, and visit our weather page.
