West Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia Metropolitan Airport will soon have new daily flights from South Carolina's capital city to the Big Apple.

The airport announced Friday that American Airlines will begin offering two daily flights to New York City's LaGuardia Airport starting on May 3, 2019.

The daily service will depart Columbia at 6:55 a.m. and will arrive New York at 9:00 a.m. The return flight will depart New York at 9:29 p.m. and will arrive in Columbia at 11:36 p.m.

The airport says the flight times are designed to allow our business travelers to get to New York City in the morning to conduct business and return the same day if needed. It would also allow other travels to do a day trip to the city.

Delta also flies daily to New York.

It's the latest in increased activity at Columbia Metro by America. In June, the company upgraded their nonstop flights to Dallas to mainline service thus increasing their seat capacity to Columbia by 40 percent.

“We are very excited about this announcement by American, what a great way to end 2018," said Mike Gula, CAE’s Executive Director. "This route is one that we have discussed with American for some time. The timing is now right and we are pleased with their commitment to CAE and to serving our community."
