Hoboken Residents Get Hudson County Alert About 'Heavy Downpour'

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hudson County's Office of Emergency Management sent an alert Wednesday morning about a heavy downpour predicted for the afternoon. They advised residents to "avoid known flood prone areas, secure lawn ornaments and furniture."

The Hudson County OEM alert said:

Alert: A cold front will move across the region with showers and thunderstorms expected later today. Some storms may produce locally heavy downpours and high wind gusts.

Instructions: Avoid known flood prone areas, secure lawn ornaments and furniture

The area was under a severe thunderstorm watch until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

During the most severe downpours in Hoboken, some streets have flooded, including during two storms last summer. See the list below of corners that sometimes flood during downpours.

The National Weather Service predicts for the Hoboken area:

Wednesday afternoon: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. High near 68. South wind around 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 7pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 36. Breezy, with a northwest wind 18 to 20 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 30 m.p.h. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 22 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 33 m.p.h.
