Hundreds affected by power outages in Charleston area amid severe weather

UPDATE (4:15 PM): Dominion Energy reports 26 active outages in the greater Charleston area; however, the number of total customers affected is lower than it was earlier in the afternoon.

Roughly 119 customers are affected by the outages in the North Charleston area with an additional 49 affected customers in the Summerville area.


3:30 PM -- Dominion Energy is reporting 15 different outages in the greater Charleston area. 

Those outages are impacting 815 customers in the area, as of 3:30 p.m., officials said. 

The majority of outages are in the North Charleston area. 

Meanwhile, outages in Berkeley County with Electric Cooperatives of SC are affecting roughly 785 customers, and another 218 in Charleston County.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 4:15 p.m. for parts of the Tri-County. Strong winds and penny-sized hail are possible with the storm.
