Using a helicopter, Cal Fire and Santa Cruz firefighters, the U.S. Coast Guard and state parks workers rescue a surfer who was swept onto the rocks north of Davenport by high tide.

A surfer was rescued Sunday after turbulent ocean waters left them stranded along the Santa Cruz County coast.

The surfer was reportedly swept onto rocks north of Davenport and rescued by firefighters, state parks rescue swimmers and the U.S. Coast Guard. The rescue concluded by 12:10 p.m., less than an hour after authorities responded to the incident, Cal Fire, which was dispatched along with the Santa Cruz Fire Department, said in a Twitter post.

Video released by Cal Fire’s San Mateo-Santa Cruz unit on Sunday afternoon showed a helicopter hovering above an oceanside cliff pulling up two people, one of whom appeared to be a rescuer, via a cable and lifting them safely to higher ground.

No one was injured, officials said.

Separately, authorities in San Francisco on Sunday rescued two people who were stranded on a cliff at Fort Funston.

Lt. Jonathan Baxter, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department, said the two people were apparently hiking in the area and then ventured off trail and onto a cliff — where they were not allowed to be — and became stuck.

“They didn’t fall, so they were probably climbing,” Baxter said.

Rescuers pulled both people to safety using ropes, but a CHP helicopter also provided aerial coverage for a little bit, Baxter said. No one was injured.
