Syracuse, N.Y. — A widespread winter storm that led to a state of emergency in New York is so far shaping up to be a little milder than predicted in Syracuse.
The storm has dumped about 9 inches on the city as of Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm has led to schools, libraries and businesses across Onondaga County to close for the day.
Manlius and Jamesville have seen the most snowfall in the county with just over 14 inches each.
In counties east of Onondaga, snowfall has been much heavier. Cazenovia in Madison County has 22 inches, according to the Weather Service. Sauquoit, a hamlet in Oneida County, has about 16 inches.
The Capital Region and the North Country have been hit the hardest, with snowfall reaching up to two feet in some areas, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Tuesday afternoon.
There are more than 85,000 power outages in the state, Hochul said.
Snow is expected to continue to fall overnight.
