LANSING – Homecoming parades in Haslett and Grand Ledge have been canceled because of the potential for severe weather Friday night.

Grand Ledge High School and Haslett High School will still play their Friday night football games. Both games start at 7 p.m.

Michigan State University canceled its Friday night homecoming parade as well.

Ernie Ostuno, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, said a batch of storms is moving through the Lansing area late Friday afternoon but should clear out quickly.

A second round could move into the area after 8 p.m., Ostuno said, and might linger for a few hours.

"It's hard to say right now," he said.

Ostuno said any remaining rain Saturday morning is expected to clear out by the afternoon.
