The British actress, who was known for her illustrious work in theater, died at the age of 90. Announcing her demise on behalf of her family, United Agents said in a statement that Jefford was a “warm and generous woman, a sensational actress, and a dear friend who will be missed by many.” In a career spanning seven decades, Jefford appeared on stage for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and the Old Vic. She has also acted in films such as “And the Ship Sails On” (1983), “The Ninth Gate” (1999) and “Philomena” (2013). She was nominated for a BAFTA in 1968 for her performance in the film “Ulysses” (1967). At the age of 34, Jefford became the youngest ever recipient of an OBE, which she was awarded in 1965 for service to theater.
