Since its creation in 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney, The Walt Disney Company has grown to be one of the most thriving mass media companies in the world. The current CEO is Bob Chapek, who took over on 25th February 2020. The company is estimated to be worth billions. Disney channels and consumer products are not the only things contributing to the success of the company. Over the years, Disney has been buying and adding other companies to its roster. Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) is a cable company that focuses on sports-related programs. The company was founded on 7th September 1979 and had a headquarter in Bristol, Connecticut. The ESPN is owned by ESPN Inc, The Walt Disney Company and Hearst Communications.

Walt Disney Pictures was founded in 1923 in Burbank, California. The film studio is one of the many Disney subsidiaries. The subsidiary is the flagship producer of live-action feature films within the Walt Disney Studios unit. The Disney banner has produced and released 420 films since the 1930s. The studio's first live-action film was Treasure Island (1950).

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures takes care of theatrical and some digital distribution of films created by and released by Walt Disney Studios. The company also deals with the promotion and marketing of films. The company was first established in 1953 as Buena Vista Film Distribution Company, Inc.

This was later changed to Buena Vista Distribution Company, Inc. and Buena Vista Pictures Distribution, Inc.). The current name it has was changed in 2007. 20th Century Studios is a film company founded on 31st May 1935. The subsidiary of The Walt Disney Studios was founded by William Fox, Darryl F. Zanuck, and Joseph M. Schenck. Since being founded, 20th Century Studios made a name for itself by being one of the Big Six major American film studios for over eight decades. The other five are Warner Bros, Universal, Disney, and Paramount, and Sony.

Disney purchased 20th Century Fox through its acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. The current name the company goes by was adopted on 17th January 2020. Thomas Rothman founded searchlight Pictures in 1994. The film distribution studio that is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Studios is a sister studio of the larger film studio 20th Century Studios.

Popular films by Searchlight Pictures include Slumdog Millionaire (2008), 12 Years a Slave (2013), Birdman, (2014), and The Shape of Water (2017). The four films have all won Academy Awards. Disney acquired the company on 20th March 2019.
