Large-scale rescue of stranded whales on remote island
This dramatic footage shows a large-scale rescue of stranded whales on a remote Scottish island. On Saturday (June 13) ten pilot whales beached in Lochboisdale in South Uist, Outer Hebrides - with around seven locals and a volunteer from British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) helping to save the animals. Luckily they managed to save all of them, however the previous day 17 had got stranded and seven whales died. After receiving an emergency call, Noel Hawkins, a marine medic at BDMLR, drove 175 miles with rescue equipment from Ullapool, Scottish Highlands to Lochboisdale, via the Isle of Skye.
