Concerns over Health Department's handling of medical intern placements

There have been various reports indicating that the Junior Doctors Associations of South Africa has expressed concern about the Health Department's inefficient handling of hundreds of graduates placements in public health facilities.

Speaking to Africa Melane, Junior Doctors Association of South Africa chair Dr Theresa Mwesigwa says its biggest concern has always been how the department manages the placement of internships.

"The last two or three years, this has been a growing concern as they have really had challenges with placing. We are happy that this year they have managed to place all South Africans who are eligible for an internship. But our issues are that the process is far from perfect," explained Dr Theresa Mwesigwa, Chairperson of the Junior Doctors Association of South Africa.
