"Why Are Our School Children At Taverns?"- Ntsiki Mazwai

South African celebrities have reacted to the tragic passing of 21 children, at the Enyobeni Tavern in Scenery Park, East London.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the country and messages of condolences to those who lost their loved ones are pouring in.

While the cause of the children's death is unknown, police said they are investigating. Reports indicate the children were attending an event on Saturday night, when the incident occurred.

Enyokeni Tavern owner Siyakhangela Ngevu told eNCA he was not present at the time of the incident. “I was called in the early hours of the morning by security guards saying that I should come back as there is chaos," he said.

“The place was very chaotic. It was filled with children and young boys…with security guards finding it hard to control the situation. Unfortunately, the numbers were higher than expected," he continued.

Furthermore, he said that he will not dispute that someone used pepper spray to disperse the crowd because it was chaotic. “I am not going to dispute that someone came in and used pepper spray that resulted in people dying. I wasn’t there and it wasn’t me who sprayed the pepper spray

He went on to sympathize with the loved ones of the victims. “I sympathise with people who have lost their loved ones. It wasn’t my intention for this to happen. I request that we calm down and let the police do their job and take it from there,” he said.

The patrons' passing has sparked major debate on Twitter and local celebrities have reacted to the incident. Ntsiki Mazwai asked why minors are allowed in taverns.

She continued, "Selling alcohol to underage kids. Only one entrance to his club.The spraying of the pepper spray or gas to make the kids leave is homicide. Lots of laws were broken last night.
