The cold front that set in from the Western Cape on Thursday 22 June invades the central interior of the country on Friday 23 June, and will be felt in the north-eastern parts by Saturday 24 June.

Snow Report SA headed out to the KZN Midlands on Friday in the hopes of spotting the first snowfall in the region for 2017.

"Not that we are expecting much snow [on Friday] morning, but it would be the first snow in the Midlands this year if it does happen," says Snow Report SA.

A new development with the cold front from the west brings a slight chance of some light falls in the KZN Midlands during Friday morning. "These KZN falls are unlikely to settle much if they do happen, and will be very light," says Snow Report.

"This is the KZN Midlands this morning. Misty and about 5°C. A little too warm for snow at the moment. We will hang around a few hours to see if we get some flurries later," says the Snow Report mobile crew. (Photo: Snow Report SA)

Snow in EC

Snow report says that the cold front from the Western Cape that moved east made snow possible over the Eastern Cape high ground, "with a slightly heavier (up to 10cm) fall possible over the high ground around Hogsback".

The first snow report for Friday was sent by Ettienne Groenewald at Mountain Shadows, near Elliot in the Eastern Cape. Check it out:
