Kaizer Chiefs will be desperate to draw a line under the Njabulo Blom saga, one way or another.

The 22-year-old’s current contract expires in June 2023, and Amakhosi faces the very real prospect of losing him for free.

Kaizer Chiefs to play hardball with Sundowns

If Amakhosi decide it’s unlikely that Blom will extend his contract, they’ll need to act fast and minimize the damage. One potential possibility in that regard is for them to insist that they get Andile Jali in return, should Sundowns be Blom’s final destination.

Chiefs were linked with Jali not so long ago, although any rumours linking Sundowns stars to any of the other clubs in the “Big Three” need to be taken with a pinch of salt. However, this one might have legs. 32-year-old midfield general Jali, as things stand, will be a free agent in June.

JALI COULD BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN GENERATIONS

A move for Jali isn’t totally out of the question. It would be tough to pull this one off, especially with Sundowns’ financial clout and ability to offer him new terms, but stranger things have happened in football. Chiefs could do with Jali’s experience and know-how, and he could double up as a mentor for youngsters like Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
